Jimmy's Journey, Day 6 of 15: Misti Alpaca

Welcome to Day 6 of Jimmy's Journey to 15!

Have you heard about Jimmy's Journey to 15?! It's our 15th anniversary this year, and we will be sharing the story of JBW, year-by-year, here on our blog! Join us on the journey as we celebrate 15 years in business and highlight 15 partners in the yarn industry! Each day we'll kick off the blog post with a short clip of Jimmy (a.k.a. Laura) recounting one year of our history, while telling the story of a vendor who came along for the ride!

In this video, Jimmy passionately tells the story of her first magazine spread in Fortune Small Business and how it leads to teaching Hollywood hunks to knit for charity. We also learn about her introduction to Miguel from Misti Alpaca.

2007 in Review: The Big Year!

Jimmy's favorite Misti Alpaca yarn?
Hand Paint Sock!
2007 was the year of Jimmy's big break. Her 5-page magazine spread in Fortune Small Business put JBW on the map and even got the attention of a Hollywood big-wig/fellow knitter! This connection led to Jimmy's invitation to the 2007 Emmy's SwagSuite where she excitedly taught celebrities like Kevin Sorbo of 'Hercules' fame (the epitome of Hollywood hunk in my opinion!) and Judd Nelson from 'The Breakfast Club' to help knit a scarf that would be auctioned off for charity!

In the same year, Jimmy became friends with Miguel, the grandson of one of Peru's first exporters of alpaca fiber and founder of the company Misti Alpaca. It's eye-opening to note that while we're celebrating our 15th year in business, Miguel celebrates a family legacy that goes back four generations! Laura hopes to visit his operation this fall and experience first-hand the shearing of alpacas and rich history of the land. "They're very kind and intelligent people," she says, "and I'm so excited to visit them in Peru!"

Thank you for joining us on Day 6 of Jimmy's Journey to 15! Be sure to join us again tomorrow for Day 7, where we'll highlight our 7th year in business along with a vendor that joined us along the way! And be sure to check out our Ravelry discussion thread and chime in with any comments you may have as we reminisce together about the last 15 years! You can also spread the word on social media using the hashtag #jimmysjourney15.

XOXO,

Jimmy & The Beans
